Genome Sequencing Instrument
The Project
I designed the end-to-end user experience of a new genome sequencing instrument.
My Role
I led the design and focused on:
Visual, UI, and UX Design
Information Architecture
Design Documentation
My Approach
I worked closely with product managers, industrial designers, and UX architects to understand the instrument, its use cases, and its users.
The User
Beth, Lab Technician
Needs a user-friendly genome sequencer that aligns with her research workflow.
After building context around the instrument and its users, I designed the UI/UX using our design system and component library.
I designed all on-screen use cases for the instrument, including how to dispose of used materials after sequencing.
At Illumina, I worked on multiple instruments, large and small. My focus was on ensuring that each instrument provided the best possible user experience and was consistent with our suite of products, while also looking for opportunities to improve, where applicable. I took pride in designing the experience for these scientific instruments.
